Single Mom with 8 year old son going to Disney first time alone. Booked airfare already. To stay week of Aug 22 until friday Aug 26. Still checking hotels, unsure costly. Any suggestions? Also the character dining all booked up.

    Hi Ann Marie!

I am a single parent like you and I have been going to Walt Disney World with my son for the last five years. We have had such an incredible time together on those trips and we also were able to do it economically on a limited budget. Here is what I would suggest based on my experience:

    1. Stay at a Value Resort during the Value Season (we normally go at the end of August or early September) Pop Century or the All Star Resorts (Sports, Movies, or Music)

    2. Take advantage of a free dining package if it is offered because this gets you two paid for meals each day (historically it has been offered at the end of August to the end of September)

    3. Bring or purchase breakfast food to eat in your room before heading to the Parks

    4. Utilize the complementary Disney's Magical Express to get from the airport to your Resort and then back to the airport after your vacation

    5. Use the free Disney transportation to get around Walt Disney World

    6. Use a Disney certified Travel Agent to help you get the best deals

I hope that you have a magical Walt Disney World vacation with your son!

    Keep Dreaming Big!
