I am a single Mom to a 4 year old planning DCL next year with him. I am considering the 5-night cruise. Any hints for a first time cruise (time of year, length of cruise, etc.) helpful. Also, do we both need passports or will birth certificates do?

I would definitely recommend at least a 4 night cruise, so the five night cruise would be a great getaway.  In 2010, try one of the five night “double dip” cruises where the Disney ship visits Castaway Cay twice! There are sailing dates offered in May, June, July and August for this special itinerary. I would recommend the May 30 voyage as it is before the hurricane season gets under way. Travel during the summer months can often be more expensive as well.

A Passport will give you peace of mind. As of 2007, a passport is required for flying into the United States. If there would be a need for you to fly home from a port, a valid U.S. passport would be essential.

    Requirements
continue to change, therefore please visit the U.S. Department of State’s website for the latest news at http://travel.state.gov.

For first time cruisers, I would recommend ordering the free DVD planning kit. The Disney Cruise offers a magical vacation!
