I am a single mom with two children and we haven't been to WDW before. Looking for recommendations on upscale convenient accomodations with separate sleeping/living areas. Also, what "special" personalized things can we have in the room for arriv

Hi Suzanne! I am excited you are planning your first visit to this great vacation destination. I am sure it will be full of magic for you and your children.

Finding the best resort choice for you really depends on your budget. The most convenient resorts to the parks will be the deluxe choices. There are four close to the Magic Kingdom park and they are Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Wilderness Lodge. There are three resorts close to the Epcot and they are Boardwalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is closest to the Animal Kingdom park but you still must take a bus.

Unless you choose one of the many Disney Vacation Club Villas it is hard to find separate sleeping areas in the resorts. All the Deluxe options have some suites of varying sizes but they will be pricey. The DVC Villas can offer several bedrooms plus a full kitchen so you can eat many meals right in your unit. These are available to all guests if they are not taken by DVC members. When you call the central reservation number you can ask about this option.

The new Art of Animation resort does have the Family Suites which are quite nice and can fit more budgets. They have a separate bedroom with queen bed and then various sleeping options in the living area. They have two full bathrooms which makes this very sought after. They won't have a full kitchen but they will have a microwave, frig and coffee maker in each.

Check out the Disney Florist,, for some super ideas for in room decorations and surprises. They can add personalization to many items.  Please note that they might not be able to have them in the room before check-in but once you have been assigned your room the delivery can take place. Let us help you with more of your planning if you have any questions along the way!
