Welcome to planDisney, Sharon!
I'm super excited to see that you'll be visiting The Most Magical Place on Earth with your son next month! You should definitely take some time to enjoy
Flower and Garden Festival at EPCOT -- this blooming celebration with be in full swing while you're visiting. My young son really loves the Butterfly Pavillion that is usually available at this Festival! Consider taking your son through it to see these marvelous creatures as well! We also love splitting School Bread at
Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe near the Frozen Ever After ride!
You and your son are going to have such a magical trip, Sharon. You sound like an incredibly loving, caring, and thoughtful mother -- my wish on the Evening Star tonight will be that you both make unforgettable memories during your trip.
While there are no official meet-ups scheduled by Disney currently for single/solo parents, I have seen some online boards and groups that focus on potential meet-ups for trips that align for families of single/solo parents. I recommend doing a quick internet search as I was able to find about 3 third-party online communities that may have some interest to you, Sharon! (With all things on the internet, please use caution and your discretion when communicating with people online and scheduling in-person meetings.)
Another thing you might consider is visiting some of the play areas and splash pads at the theme parks. My children have always enjoyed playing with others at these locations, and it's a great way to get to know people at the parks. Here is the list of the play areas that I would recommend at each of the theme parks:
At Magic Kingdom:
-Casey Jr. Splash 'N' Soak Station — In the Silly Circus area of Fantasyland
-Dumbo the Flying Elephant — Under the big-top tent in the Silly Circus area of Fantasyland. This Dumbo-themed play area is air-conditioned and offers a great place to wait before riding Dumbo!
At EPCOT:
-Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana -- There's a splash pad within this attraction!
-Green Landing Family Play Zone — Outdoor playground located between the Creations Shop and Test Track
-SpaceBase — Located at the exit of Mission: SPACE. You don't have to ride this attraction, just enter through the shop's exit.
-Bruce's Shark World — Located inside SeaBase
-Liquid Layer Splash Pad — You'll find this circular splash pad on the path in front of Mission: SPACE
Hollywood Studios:
-Disney Junior Play and Dance! — Not a traditional playground, but this show has a lot of kids and is a really fun interactive show!
Animal Kingdom:
-The Boneyard -- This is my son's FAVORITE park at Disney World
(Bonus Tip: Bring a swimming suit or a change of clothes for your son to the theme parks just in case he gets wet on a ride or at a splash pad!)
Many of the Resorts at Disney World also have
playgrounds and pools! These would both be excellent places to meet fellow Disney-lovers! Check what activities your hotel has during your stay too, Sharon! We always enjoy the campfire activities, the movies under the stars, and anything else our Disney hotel is offering! It's been a good way to meet people as well!
I hope you and your son have the BEST DAYS EVER at Disney! If you have additional questions, we're always just a dream away here at planDisney.
See ya real soon, Sharon!
