Hi!! I am a single mom of a 9 y/o girl & want to plan a trip for early 2014 for a one week stay. Any discounts? Affordable places to eat? What other parks are a must see, besides MK & AK? Any other tips that can help me save m

    Hello Nicole!

Thanks for visiting us at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your questions.  I would suggest spending some time exploring the Walt Disney World website and watch for Special Offers regularly.  Typically, discounts can be announced within 6 months or less of your desired travel dates.  Unfortunately, there is no exact formula, so you will have to keep checking periodically.   Depending on what might be announced, you'll be able to decide whether it's cheaper to book a vacation package or room-only reservation.

Depending on your length of stay, I would suggest visiting all four of the major theme parks.  Your 9 year old will find something enjoyable at each one, and you will as well!  As a matter of fact, you can download the My Disney Experience app and explore all the exciting possibilities.

For the best prices (and lower crowds), I would suggest booking during value season.  Since you mentioned early in 2014, try booking in mid-January through mid-February.  You'll definitely want to avoid President's Day weekend, as crowds and prices will be much higher.   Counter service restaurants will always be the most economical option.  You may decide that adding the Disney Dining Plan will work better for you.   Bringing a backpack with snacks to the parks is a great way to save money in between meals as well.

I know you are going to have so much fun planning your trip.  Feel free to write back with more questions as you get an idea of your must-do's.  We are always happy to help.

Until then, I wish you a truly magical vacation!
