How do I get signed up for a fish extender group for the next member cruise this summer?

    Ahoy, Patricia!

It sounds like you're kicking 2018 off to a great start - looking forward to a summer voyage with Disney Cruise Line. If you're anything like me, you're already counting down the days and planning your outfits for your magical vacation!

Fish Extender exchanges are such a fun way to interact with fellow cruisers during your sailing. Fish Extender exchanges are not an "official" Disney activity, but are set up by Disney Cruise Line guests for specific cruises. Guests create small groups of fellow cruisers with whom they exchange small gifts, by way of hanging pockets (like Christmas stockings!) outside stateroom doors. Fish Extenders get their name from the fish (or seahorse, or starfish) shaped ornament on the wall outside each stateroom. The pockets hang on the sea-themed wall clips, and therefore are an extension of the fish. It's amazing how well-known this practice has become!

The easiest way I've found to join a group is through Facebook. Simply put the name of your ship and sail dates in the search bar, and you'll usually find a group page for your cruise! We cruised the week of Thanksgiving, and had a large Facebook group established and interacting with each other months before our sail date. Several Fish Extender and Ornament Exchange groups were created within the page, and while my family didn't personally participate, it was fun to see the photos of all the crafty and creative gifts!

I hope you're successful in locating and joining a group page for your sailing, and you'll soon be brainstorming cute ideas for Fish Extender gifts. Please let us know if you have any more questions before your Disney Cruise Line vacation - we're happy to help! - Diane W.
