I signed up for my first marathon, the Disney Marathon and my husband signed up for the Goofy Challenge. We are torn whether to bring the kids (7, 10, 11) with us. Grandma would come along to keep them busy during race events, but still unsure. Advice?

Hi Kelli! Congratulations on signing up for your first full marathon! It will be my first full marathon too! I couldn't resist the 20th anniversary medal!

As for kids, that is a tough decision. I have been to the runDisney race weekends in both capacities. We have made it a fun week with the kids and my husband and I have also made it an "adults only" trip. Both ways were great and we had a lot of fun.

If you want to bring your kids, they could sign up for the kid's races or your whole family could do the Family Fun Run 5K (including Grandma!). I am sure they will be more than happy to hang out at the pools, arcades, etc. after your races to give you time to recover before hitting the parks. They could even be a part of the chEAR squad to cheer you on during the race.

I would probably base my decision on the length of stay. If I was just going for the race weekend and not longer, then I would think about making it an adult's trip. You and your husband will have a lot to celebrate with your first marathon and his Goofy challenge. If you have the time to stay longer and to let the kids enjoy the parks and everything else, then definitely make it a family trip.

I know it's a tough decision and one that I will also have to make. My husband is planning to make that his first full marathon too, so we will have to decide whether or not to bring our boys as well.
