We shall be boarding the Disney Mediterranean cruise departing from Barcelona this August. We are travelling with 2 children aged 7 and 8. Any recommendations for port adventures in Naples, La spezia, and Ville Franche. thanks alot

    Welcome aboard, Vicky!

How exciting to hear that you'll be sailing on the Med with Captain Mickey very soon. You and your family will absolutely love visiting the beautiful European Ports during your voyage. My kids were close to your kids' age when we sailed the Magic on the Mediterranean a few years ago. Such a memorable summer vacation!

In August, it will still be hot and humid, so make sure you bring a backpack for those extra water bottles and possibly a little personal fan for the kids. Get all lathered up with sunblock and bring a hat too. There will be lots of walking during most of the port adventures, so make sure you outfit the kids appropriately - comfy & cool walking sandals worked great for mine.

Check for full day tours that include lunch - just to be sure that it's all taken cared of for you. Naples offers a couple of great options: the Stunning Sorrento & Amalfi Coast tour with the exclusive Youth Activity, fills up quickly and is quite popular. We ended up joining the Pompeii, Sorrento & Capri for Families adventure. It was action packed, but I loved it since we got to see a lot on that tour - though it was very hot & humid! You definitely have to pick a tour that visits the Leaning Tower of Pisa when you are docked in La Spezia. Your 7 year old will be too young to climb the tower, but I'm sure you'll have loads of fun taking photos on the grounds. There is also a nice pizza place... have your kids eat pizza while at Pisa. Villefranche offers the Nice & Train Tour, which is a nice leisurely trip for half the day and allows you to explore on your own afterwards.

The tour guides are usually local and very knowledgeable. While onboard, make sure your kids check the Oceaneer Club & Lab for special activities & collectibles at every port. The Youth Counselors do an awesome job by teaching the kids something about the places they visit... and they make it fun! Bon Voyage & enjoy the gelato! ~ Dolly
