our seven-year-old is 49 inches tall and thinks she wants to ride Tron. If the three of us wait in line and she changes her mind right before getting on the ride is it possible for one adult to ride, other wait with child and then switch?

Hey there, Jodi, and welcome to planDisney!

Congrats to your little Mouseketeer for working up the courage to enter the Grid at such a young age! My older son hopped on his first Lightcycle around the same age and he hasn't looked back. It's one of his favorite rides of all time now! Let's get right into a game plan for you and your kiddo.

First, only people in your party who are at or above the minimum height requirement can get into a ride’s queue. All three of you can most definitely hang out in the line together, but you’re not forced to go on the ride once it’s your turn (my family does this all the time). Here’s the thing though: If your seven-year-old decides not to ride and sits out with one parent while the other rides, the parent who sits out can’t wait at the ride platform to ride immediately after.

But Hakuna Matata! I recommend that you see a friendly Cast Member at the front of an attraction’s queue before you get into line. Set up something called Rider Switch with them. Although Rider Switch is intended for one adult to stay behind and then switch later using the Lightning Lane, your case could also benefit from this cool option. Tell the Cast Member your entire situation for good measure, but if your kiddo decides to not ride at the last minute, at least the other parent can exit but quickly re-enter the Lightning Lane. Back-up plans are a must at Disney!

AN EXTRA GEM: I love that TRON utilizes lockers for its riders’ loose items. Before you hop onto this speedy ride, you can open a locker with a trusty MagicBand+ or physical ticket and place your belongings inside. After your spin through the Grid, simply locate your locker and unlock it in the same way that you first opened it.

Jodi, I hope that this eases your worries a bit! If you have any other questions about your upcoming family vacation, just give us a holler here at planDisney.

    Magic always,
