are service dog permitted at the park and hotels.

    Hello Jim!

Welcome to planDisney! Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members are trained in the Five Keys which are Safety, Courtesy, Show, Efficiency, and Inclusion. Inclusion is the heart of the Keys and something that they work hard to improve in the Parks. I love that Walt Disney World continues to find ways to help all kinds of guests find ways to enjoy the magic.

Service animals which can include a dog or miniature horse are welcome at Walt Disney World Resort which includes the Parks and the Resort Hotels. The rules are consistent with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) in that the animal is to be "trained to do work or perform tasks for, and to assist, an individual with a disability." However, there are some limitations in that some rides are just not safe for them to join you on such as TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom Park and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Other attractions could come with warnings due to various reasons including spinning or ride loading set up. I would suggest you watch some ride point-of-view videos online to get an idea about what to expect and make the best decision for you and your pup. If a dog cannot join you on the attraction there is usually a crate or area where the dog can wait while you enjoy the attraction. Another restriction is that service animals are not allowed near water features, water rides, or the pool.

If you bring your service dog be prepared to answer the questions that are consistent with ADA regulations:

    1. Is this a service animal required because of a disability?
    2. What task or service/work has the dog been trained to perform?

Your dog must be harnessed or leashed and fully within your control. It can be a stressful time visiting Walt Disney World without a service animal so prepare your dog to handle all the noise, interaction, and surfaces. With some good preparation, you and your service dog will have a great time. Don't forget to meet my favorite dog, Pluto! As a reward for your hardworking dog, you should make a visit to the Marketplace Co-Op for Disney Tails which has fun items and gear for your hardworking furry friend.

I do hope this helps and you have a fabulous time! If you have any more questions please free to come back as we have a lot of experts ready to help!

    Happy planning!
