In September we will be staying at the Polynesian. On our first day we planned to bus to Disney Springs for lunch and shopping and then take a boat to Port Orleans for some beignets and cocktails at the lounge. Will we still be able to do that?

Greetings Sarah and welcome back to planDisney!

My wife and I are usually annual visitors to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in September to celebrate our wedding anniversary!  Our first visit as a family was to the Polynesian many decades ago, and we feel like we are at home when we walk into the magnificent lobby and get that tropical greeting!

Sarah today is the day that the new Disney Springs transportation rules go into effect. The current information that we have regarding the Sassagoula River Cruise from Disney Springs to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort-French Quarter is that each Guest will be asked to show a valid Walt Disney Resort hotel room key, a dining reservation or an experience reservation for the Resort that they are visiting. So, with that information, at this time, it looks like you would need to make other arrangements to get to the French Quarter to enjoy those beignets and a cocktail or two. If additional details come out between now and your trip in September, we will keep you up to date here at planDisney.

There are a couple of other options. You could use that free evening to secure a dining reservation at Boatwright’s Dining Hall which is located at the French Quarter’s sister resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort-Riverside.  This would allow you to utilize the Sassagoula River Cruise from Disney Springs with a Guest dining reservation.  You could then make the scenic walk along the river to the French Quarter to Scat Cat’s Club Cafe to cap the dinner off with some Mickey shaped beignets! You could also scoot on over to Scat Cat’s Club Lounge for their live Jazz that takes place Thursday through Sunday at 7:30pm!  It’s a fantastic, intimate jazz club and one of the hidden gems at Walt Disney World!

The other option would be a ride share service to the French Quarter.  This would be an additional cost, but it would get you to the powdery goodness of those Mickey shaped beignets!

Sarah, I hope you have a wonderful trip and continue your tradition of beignets and cocktails! Don’t forget to enjoy a Mickey Bar or two!
