I have seen lots of information about money saving ideas for little kids.   Do you have any money saving ideas for older kids? DD will be 10 yrs old. What are some (mom I got to have it) things I can buy before our trip?

    Hi Pamela,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thank you for bringing another excellent question to us!

How exciting to plan a trip for your 10-year old daughter! As the mom of 10-year old twin girls, I understand your dilemma. We always make a trip to a Disney store near us before we go. Try the following:
    • Minnie Mouse headband(s) with ears
    • Anything glow in the dark (for nights in the parks)
    • Autograph book
    • Anything mermaid themed (our girls just got mermaid swimsuits for our next trip)
    • Sunglasses
    • Disney-themed drawstring back pack (we bought some at the resort on our last visit)
My girls also suggested that the Disney theme be subtle - "nothing too over the top mom." I am not sure if your daughter will still want to wear princess attire to dine with princesses. If she does, I suggest you search the clearance racks at a Disney Store (or online). We took our last trip just before our girls turned 10-years old and I found two Tiana dresses on sale for about $18 each - gorgeous dresses for a bargain price!

For our upcoming trip, however, they have assured me that they are not dressing as princesses. Surprisingly, they do like to dress up for at least one special dinner. We enjoy celebrating my husband's birthday at the California Grill. So I find a party dress (something with glitter, of course) for each of them prior to our trip. Last year, I found the cutest party dresses for about $15 each.

Our girls also love anything Jedi. If your daughter is a Star Wars fan, I would definitely suggest buying your Star Wars gear before hitting the parks.

Pamela, I hope this helps! I trust you will have a magical time with your (dare I say, tween) daughter!

Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
    Donyell
