Hello, Elizabeth! Welcome to planDisney, the best place for Guests like you to get tips and advice from seasoned Guests with experience planning the ideal
Walt Disney World Resort vacation.
As you have pointed out, the Disability Access Service (DAS) has recently undergone some changes. The service is intended to assist Guests with developmental disabilities who cannot wait in a conventional queue for an extended period. While you or your son may have qualified in the past, there is a chance you may no longer qualify. Rest assured, Disney has many accessibility options for guests still requiring assistance. If you or your son apply for and do not qualify for DAS, I would encourage you to do a couple of things. First, visit the
Accessibility at Walt Disney World Resort page to see what options you can take advantage of for
mobility issues to avoid standing for long periods. Second, I suggest you review the
Accessibility Planning Guide & Recommendations Frequently Asked Questions & Helpful Tips, Trip Planning Strategies, Restroom Information, and Accessing Attractions Queues sections specifically. I think you will find the information beneficial to your circumstances, and some services can take advantage of what you may not have known about before. My family and I use
Rider Switch frequently when our children can no longer “hold it,” and we must leave the queue for a bathroom break.
If you have additional questions after reviewing the updated information on DAS, the Accessibility at Walt Disney World Resort page, and the Accessibility Planning Guide & Recommendations, please revisit us here at
planDisney. My fellow panelist and I can offer more recommendations for specific
Disney Resorts Collection hotels,
Theme Parks, and
attractions to help you continue with your vacation planning.
See you real soon,
Brent
