Hi there, Lisa!
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so glad you stopped by with your question. It's fantastic that you're planning and researching even the smallest of details, like bag locks. As someone who likes to think through every little scenario and is a rule follower, I can appreciate your desire to be 100% in the know and ensure everything is within Disney’s guidelines. After all, part of the magic is feeling completely prepared!
Walt Disney World Resort takes the safety and security of its Guests very seriously, something I’m always grateful for when I visit with my family. While it's true that you might see all kinds of tips and rumors circulating online, the official
Prohibited Items List on the Walt Disney World website currently does not mention small bag locks of any kind as being restricted. Based on that, I believe that a small, TSA-approved bag lock should be fine to use. That said, it’s important to note that security needs to be able to inspect all bags thoroughly, so any locks must be removed or unfastened before entering the park to allow for a proper check.
What I’d suggest, Lisa, is picking up an inexpensive TSA-approved lock (you can find plenty online for just a few dollars). Just keep the lock inside your bag as you go through security, and then once you're inside the park and have stowed your bag in a stroller or similar spot, you can attach the lock for some added peace of mind.
If you’d prefer to avoid the lock question altogether, another great option is to utilize the
locker rentals located near the entrances at each of the four theme parks. They come in a variety of sizes, and the daily rental fee is quite reasonable. It’s a secure and convenient way to store valuables or extra gear without having to carry it around or worry about leaving it unattended.
One more tip? Consider packing light and embracing the minimalist approach! My family and I have downsized our park bags significantly over the years, especially after discovering the amazing
Baby Care Centers available in each park. They offer just about everything parents might need, so we no longer feel the need to bring quite as much with us. A small backpack or a hands-free belt bag can be perfect for keeping essentials close at hand while still staying light and mobile.
I hope this helps ease your mind as you finalize those park plans. And if you think of any other questions, big or small, we’re always here to help at planDisney!
Cheers,
Brent
