This will be our second Alaska cruise on the Wonder this summer. We would.like to do a float plane adventure in one of the ports. Which one of the ports has the best float plane experience?

    Hi Renee!

I’m thrilled to hEAR that you will be setting sail for Alaska this summer! The Alaskan voyage on the Disney Wonder was probably our family’s favorite Disney cruise to date. Get ready because Alaska has some of the most spectacular scenery you’ll ever see!

The big decision for an Alaskan itinerary is which Port Adventures to choose. There are so many amazing ones, I can understand your dilemma. I had the same experience when we booked our excursions in Alaska. We ultimately decided on kayaking and the White Pass Scenic Railway in Skagway, the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, and the Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour in Ketchikan. But really, we couldn't go wrong with all the fabulous choices.

Although we did not experience any float planes in Alaska, I have heard rave reviews about the Misty Fjords National Monument by Seaplane tour in Ketchikan. Between the spectacular views and opportunity to see wildlife, this tour sounds practically perfect in every way! Compared to other flying tours, this Port Adventure involves more flying time at 75 minutes.

Also check out the details for the Enchanted Taku Glacier Lodge Flight and 5-Glacier Seaplane Discovery in Juneau. One of the best combo tours around, guests fly via floatplane above the Taku glacier to the Taku Lodge. This historic lodge, built in 1923, faces the Hole-In-The-Wall Glacier, one of the few advancing glaciers in Alaska. This excursion is slightly longer and features an Alaskan king salmon feast. Flight time for this tour is approximately 30 minutes.

If you simply cannot decide between these two Port Adventures after reading their full descriptions (including the ever important Know Before You Go details), then it may come down to which town you are more interested in having time to explore. In my opinion, I enjoyed walking around Ketchikan far more than Juneau so that might make me lean towards booking the Port Adventure in Juneau.

My last tidbit of advice for Alaska: check out the helpful packing list specific for Alaska. Of all our cruises, I needed the most guidance (and the most luggage) to carry the variety of clothes and essentials for the Alaskan climate.

And just think: this is only the tip of the iceberg! Cruise back by the Disney Parks Moms Panel as you continue to finalize your plans. Wishing you a WONDERful adventure in Alaska!

    Bon Voyage!
