We are scheduled to do the Caring for the Giants tour at Animal Kingdom in August. My husband was told to wear "closed toed shoes." When we typically go to WDW in August, we are usually wearing hiking sandals. Are sandals inappropriate?

    Jambo, Emmylou!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I had the opportunity to experience the Caring For Giants tour available at Disney's Animal Theme Park just over a week ago! You are going to love the behind-the-scence access to these beloved animals. Getting to see baby Stella was a highlight for me.

Closed-toed shoes are highly recommended due to the uneven and woodsy-like terrain you will be navigating during your time backstage, it's very different from the concrete flooring of the theme parks. Walt Disney World® Resort is wild about safety and wants to be sure guests don't have any run-ins with any insects, rocks or sticks potential hurting a guest with open shoes, even your Cultural Guides will be wearing closed-toed footwear.

Speaking of the Cultural Guides, they love for guests to ask a lot of questions while on the tour, so don't be afraid to interact with them and ask away! They are fantastic!

I hope this helps, Emmylou! Please do not hesitate to ask any additional questions you may have regarding this tour. Having experienced this tour myself, I am here to help answer all your questions.
