We are sailing in September of this year for our first cruise and want to know more about onboard credit. How does it work? How do you check to see how much you have on your account/credit?

    Ahoy Tapoya,

Thank you so much for coming to planDisney with your Disney Cruise Line question. How absolutely exciting to be planning your first Disney Cruise Line sailing! I am happy to share some information with you about onboard credit on a Disney cruise.

Onboard credit is wonderful. Essentially, this credit goes onto your Disney Cruise Line folio and will be applied toward purchases you make while you are on your sailing. While so much is included on a Disney Cruise Line sailing, there are purchases you can make while you are onboard that will incur a cost. For example, you may choose to book Port Adventures for your time in port. Onboard, you may do some shopping at the fabulous onboard merchandise locations, or you may choose to have some luxurious treatments at Senses Spa. Please be aware that there are other items that incur an additional cost; these are just a few examples.

When you are onboard, you will use your Key to the World Card, which is your stateroom key as well as a card to use for charging, to make all of these purchases. When you do so, these charges will go directly onto your folio. You do not use cash or a separate credit card when you are on the ship; everything is handled through your Key to the World Card. Your onboard credit will be applied toward purchases up to the amount of the onboard credit.

If you want to check your onboard credit amount before you leave home, I suggest that you call Disney Cruise Line and a cast member there should be able to assist you with this. Once onboard, you can always head to Guest Services, and they should be able to make you a printout of your folio that would show your onboard credit.

I am so excited that you will head onto your first Disney Cruise Line sailing with an onboard credit, Tapoya! Please do feel free to sail on back to planDisney if we can help you with any further Disney Cruise Line planning questions.
