We’re sailing on the Magic and iffy on which port adventure we’re wanting to do in Progresso. We’re interested in Discover The Maya World (PGO17) but a little weary about the beach. It just says “an exclusive beach club”. Which beach club would that be?

    Hi Mara,

Thanks for sailing by planDisney for advice and details for planning your upcoming Disney Cruise Line adventure! My family enjoyed our day in Progreso, Mexico this year during our cruise on the beautiful Disney Magic and I’m happy to share our experience and some of what you can expect.

I wasn’t able to confirm the exact beach club that’s included in the Port Adventure, “Discover the Maya World (PGO17)” but I see several on the map along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico where the other stops on this fabulously adventurous day are. Since the beach portion is only part of your day, I wouldn’t worry too much about the specifics and trust that if you’re booking this Port Adventure through Disney that they will take care of selecting a quality tour partner and location for your beach time to relax, eat, and enjoy your time on the Yucatan peninsula.

My family really enjoyed the “Holy Guacamole, Salsa and Margaritas Beach Cooking (PGO24)” and it also doesn’t list the exact beach club visited when we were making our plans. Earlier this year, our experience was at the hotel Seahorse Telchac and while there are very few photos of this resort online it was a really wonderful time together in a tropical setting. We had a private pool, a delicious Mexican lunch buffet, several bars serving tropical refreshments, and thatched huts overlooking our beach time in the turquoise warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It was a small boutique-style resort with a thoughtful staff and Disney had areas reserved just for our Port Adventure Guests.

Progreso boasts a 4-mile pier, which is a stunning sight to see as you disembark in this busy port for the region. After our day seeing the area from our tour van, I would highly recommend a Port Adventure booked through Disney Cruise Line rather than exploring on your own. It’s a busy industrial area at the pier, which is essentially a highway rather than a typical ship dock you can walk. Please be assured that Disney Cruise Line partners with the best tour guides in the area to give you a taste of local flavor in a safe environment that meets the standards Disney Guests are used to. I have no doubt your time at an exclusive beach club will be fabulous after the two stops on this day of adventure to learn more about Mayan culture. I found Progreso to be a nice pairing with Cozumel, as they offer different types of beaches, experiences, and views while giving you close ports of call as you sail around sunny Mexico. If you have further questions or concerns, you can speak with the team at the Port Adventures Desk when you board the ship to inquire about more specifics or to make a final selection.

Please let us know what other questions you have as you finalize this special vacation. The Disney Magic has some recently reimagined spaces to explore, and my family is still talking about our dinners at Rapunzel’s Royal Table! It will be a fabulous trip for you to look forward to just after the holidays into the new year.

    Wishing you a magical cruise,
    Amy
