We are sailing on the Fantasy May 11-18 2024. Our first stop is Tortula island. Are there car rental outlets by the port where we arrive?

Andrea, welcome back aboard planDisney. We are so glad to see you set sail with us again. Now, Tortola, B.V.I., is on my bucket list of places to visit because it looks like heaven on earth. I understand why you want to leave the Disney Fantasy and explore on your own.

Within a 10-minute walk are both Avis and Enterprise Car Rental companies. There are others nearby but I do not recognize them as they are not national brands in the United States. If you want to check all of them out then I suggest you do a Google Maps search for "car rental." To put you in the right area you should enter "Tortola Cruise Ship Pier" into the destination then search around that location.

A couple of points to remember.

    • The island has some rough terrain so be careful where you drive.
    • Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to explore but also to return the car and make it back on the ship. When Disney Port Adventures runs late (after "All Aboard"), the ship will wait and make sure the Guest is back on the ship. It happened to us in Santorini, Greece. If you are going off on your own (not a Disney Port Adventure) and you are late for "All Aboard," the ship will leave you and you will be responsible for getting yourself to the next destination.
    • Make sure your insurance covers you while you are in a foreign country.
    • Take your Key to the World Card, your driver's license, and your Passport with you when you disembark at ports of call. You will need them to rent the car and get back on the ship.
    • Check your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App daily for "All Ashore and All Aboard" times and screenshot them because once you level the ship you may not have access to the information.

Andrea, this will be a trip you will daydream about long after you are back in Alberta. Please feel free to write me back directly with any follow-up questions or for other Disney vacation planning tips.

Enjoy making many Magical Memories on the High Seas.
