Hi, Laura! Thank you for consulting planDisney before your upcoming Disney Cruise Line vacation.
I have been in your shoes before, aiming to cut costs on our return flights. Sometimes, it was worth it; other times, I was ready to get home and start laundry. Port Everglades is approximately 4 miles from
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, about a 15-minute drive. If you choose the later flight, you could find yourself spending six hours or more at the airport.
I did some research and found that several hotels in the area offer day passes. You can book a hotel for the day and take advantage of the hotel’s amenities. Many of the hotels provided shuttles to the airport. You’ll have to weigh the cost of a day pass against the savings in airfare, but taking the opportunity to relax and freshen up before your flight home might be a great option with three little ones.
Another option is to explore
Fort Lauderdale. I looked up luggage storage facilities and found several near the port and at the airport. I also saw that some airlines offer baggage check-in at the port for the return flight. Contact your airline to see if they offer this service. Otherwise, you can safely store your bags and take the opportunity to visit the beach or explore Flamingo Gardens, one of the oldest botanical gardens and attractions in South Florida.
Laura, I hope this information helps you with your decision. I’d love for you to come back and see us again. Have a magical vacation!
SEAS the adventure!
