Ahoy, Cindi!
An escape to sunny Mexico during the winter months aboard Disney Cruise Line sounds perfect! I’m also sailing the Disney Magic to Cozumel soon, so I’ve done a lot of the same research to plan our own family vacation and I’m happy to help you.
It sounds like you’ve explored the available Port Adventures for Cozumel, Mexico but I would encourage you to see if any beach break or inclusive resort activities appeal to your family for what you seek. Booking through Disney means that you don’t have to worry about logistics or do any additional research on the quality of the experience. Most importantly, you will have peace of mind knowing you’ll return by the critical all-aboard time that day before the ship departs. You can also stop by the Port Adventures desk once onboard to speak with a friendly Crew Member and see what’s still available or which local tour operators they recommend.
I do understand wanting to have a flexible day and the appeal to explore on your own, so here are my tips for making that decision:
- Explore an online map of Cozumel to find beaches or all-inclusive resorts near the port. You’ll see it’s an island and the cruise ship pier is to the west towards Yucatan. I strongly advise that you stay on the island, as crossing to the mainland requires a public ferry in both directions and adds a lot of risk and stress to your day to time your round-trip safely.
- Review online reviews on a trusted website of other tourists’ experiences in the area. I would go to a reputable beach or established resort that offers day passes for your family’s enjoyment and safety rather than hailing a taxi at the pier and getting local guidance for any beach you haven’t researched.
- Be sure to stay current on any updated Travel Advisories posted by the U.S. Department of State. This will include formal guidance for U.S. Citizens traveling on their own in a foreign country based on recent events or concerns.
- Understand the risks of venturing on your own and that you must return to the ship by the all-aboard time listed in your Disney Cruise Line Navigator App for the day in Cozumel.
This will be my first sailing aboard the Disney Magic, and I’m most looking forward to seeing the
Tangled: The Musical and
Rapunzel’s Royal Table. Our heroine Rapunzel has such a fun sense of adventure, and I know you’ll feel that inspiration on your own cruise, Cindi!
Please sail back with any other questions to our team at planDisney as you finalize your vacation.
Wishing you a practically perfect voyage,
Amy
