Hello! I am running the Princess Half Marathon which is 2/26/11. I was curious as to the crowd levels the week after the race. Is the park more crowded due to all of the runners? My husband would like to come, but hates crowds! Thanks!

    Hi, Nicole!

The Princess is such a fun race; I ran my first Princess this year, and am ready to do it again in 2012! The whole weekend is just fabulous, from the Expo to the family races ... there's no endurance event like a runDisney event, that's for sure!

Crowd levels do tend to be higher than average on race weekends, but depending on the race itself and the number of runners it draws, that number is variable. The largest race weekend is the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, held in early January. With thousands of runners in the two endurance events, plus their families and/or support teams, traffic definitely sees an uptick.

Last year, the Princess saw approximately 22,000 runners signed up for the race. While this is a significant number, it is by no means unmanageable, particularly when you consider that these runners and traveling groups are spread out over four Parks, any number of Resorts and their amenities, Downtown Disney, etc. Also, not all of the runners and their groups stayed on after the race; many parties used the race as the final day of the trip.

Of course, there is no way to predict, with any certainty, the crowd level at any Park on a day near an event like the Princess. Disney does a masterful job of providing so much fun all over its World that even if your husband feels a bit crowded, there's always something else to experience.

    Train safely!

    See you later, celebrator!
