Hi Marissa,
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for asking us a question!
This is one of the first years in a long time that I won’t be running a race in the
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, but I’m so happy to hear that you’ll be there!
The answer to your question depends on which race(s) you’re running. If you’re running the 5K, the only place for your family to see you would be either at the start line or the finish line of that (very early) race. For the 10k, typically, that route runs along
Disney’s BoardWalk, so they would be able to see you there. As for the half and the full, if they’re willing to get up early, spectators can be in
Magic Kingdom Park without a
Theme Park Ticket prior to the park’s opening hours to cheer on the runners!
Because there are lots of spectators and lots of runners, I highly recommend running with your cell phone in order to be able to send them a quick message with your location and ETA for the parks. If you’re staying “on property” in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, I highly recommend that you speak to your
Resort Concierge when you arrive to see what their viewing and transportation options are – the race maps haven’t been released yet, so the information I’ve given you above may be subject to change.
One thing I did want to clear up to avoid any potential confusion: runDisney race entries typically don’t come with a Theme Park Ticket during the race weekend, unless you’ve purchased a package that includes your stay in a Disney Resorts Collection hotel and tickets. You’ll definitely be able to run through the Theme Parks on the race route, but you won’t be able to enter the Parks after your run without a ticket.
I hope my answer helps you plan the perfect “racecation” this January! Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions.
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
