I am running the Disney Marathon 2013, my children will be doing the kid races that Saturday. This will be my first marathon - do you suggest visiting the theme parks before or after the "big" day? :)

HI Ashley!  Congratulations on deciding to do the Disney World marathon!  It is the 20th anniversary and I know that it will be even more magical than ever.  Your kids will love their races.  My boys feel so big when they get their own runners bibs, t-shirts, and medals!

This is a great question!   I think the key to this decision will be in how much you train for it.  I have found that when I am well-trained for a race, I generally don't even get sore or stiff from it.  And if I'm not trained, then I can be pretty miserable the next day!

Since it is a full marathon, and also your first, my recommendation would be to visit the theme parks after the race.  You should take Sunday (post-race) to lounge around the resorts, maybe get a victory massage, and then go to bed early.  That way you can go to the parks and enjoy them without the nerves of your upcoming race, and without worrying about tiring yourself out.

This is just my opinion.  I have done it both ways, and I have to admit it is a lot more fun to go park hopping when that medal is already around  my neck!!

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions!
