I will run the Tink 1/2 2013 for my first race. I am not a runner but am using Galloways run/walk training program. I will be in the parks the week of 9/1. Will I be ok not running that week with all the park walking or should I plan a few runs.

Hi MaryKay!  The Tinkerbell half marathon is great!  You are going to love it!

First, let me say that if you are training and running, then you ARE a runner!  One of the things that I love most about the Galloway method is that it really opens up the sport of running to a much larger group.  I never considered myself a "runner" either, but with the run/walk/run method, I feel like I can do any race!

For your week at the park--  If you train before and after your vacation then you will be totally fine not running that week.  When I am at the parks with my family, I will sometimes get up early in the morning to get my run in.  It is generally cooler in the morning, and I know that after a day at the parks, I won't feel like running that evening.  I normally just play it by ear.  If I have time and want to, then I will run.  If we are super busy and it doesn't work out, then I definitely don't worry about it.   A couple of missed training runs won't hurt you, especially that far away from your event.

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if you have any other questions and good luck with your training!
