I want to run the Goofy Challenge in 2013, but I have never run anything longer than a 10k before. I have 9 months to train and I think I can get there. My plan is to run the half and then just do my best for the full. What do you think of this idea?

Hi James!  That is an awesome goal!  I have not done the Goofy yet, but it is definitely on my list of "must-do's"!
I think that if you follow a training plan, then nine months is plenty of time to get yourself ready for the Goofy.  I do think you need to be well-trained, simply to avoid injuring yourself.  RunDisney has an official trainer, Jeff Galloway, and he provides training programs for all Disney races.  The marathon weekend will include a "Goofy" training program with the goal of crossing the finish-line in an upright position!  Keep checking that link for when they will be posted.
I do know that a lot of people use the strategy of taking it easy for both races.  If anything, more people take their time for the half to save the energy for the full.  Whatever your strategy is, I wish you the best of luck!  Let me know if I can help you plan for your "Goofy Challenge" trip in any other way!
