What is rope drop? Is it different then the actual time the park opens? Does it vary from park to park? Also someone suggested see through bags for items that are being taken in to the park. It was said its easier to get the bags checked. Any input on this

    Hi, Ashley!

'Rope drop' is the term used to describe the time the Theme Parks open for the day. The Park entrances usually have a rope that keeps guests from entering. When the Theme Park opens, the Cast Members take down the rope, therefore the 'rope drops'!  At times, especially during the busiest seasons, Guests have been allowed into the Theme Parks a few minutes early. Currently, Magic Kingdom Park is the only Walt Disney World Theme Park with an official 'Welcome Show' and takes place approximately ten minutes before the Theme Park officially opens for the day. I highly suggest making it to rope drop for each of your Theme Park days. You can typically ride popular attractions with a reduced wait time compared to mid-day when the lines can be at their longest.

I personally would not recommend bringing a see-through bag, as I would not want everyone to see any valuables such as wallets, cameras, electronics, or souvenirs I purchased. As long as you are ready for security and have all your zippered compartments opened, and ready for inspection before it is your turn it goes rather quickly. If you have any smaller closed bags within your larger bags, such as camera bag, take it out and have it opened as well so the security Cast Member can quickly peek inside and send you on your way to fun.

Wishing you and your family a magical vacation, Ashley!

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
