Hello! Do all rooms in the Garden Wing of the Contemporary Resort have sliding doors that allow for fresh air? I understand some of the rooms do not have full balconies, but they all have sliding doors that open to the outside, correct? Thanks!

Hi Margot! Welcome back to planDisney.

My family had a fantastic stay in a Garden Wing room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort a few years ago – in fact, I was just talking to my husband about changing our upcoming visit so we could stay there again! There’s a lot to love about this resort, but what I especially love are the lake views on the back side of the resort, where the Garden Wing is located.

During our stay, we had a sliding door with no outdoor space. While I was able to open the door for fresh air (which was wonderful), there was a guardrail right outside the window and no outdoor space. I called and spoke to a Cast Member, who confirmed this is the case for all the second and third floor rooms in the Garden Wing at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I’ll be honest: we wished we had a balcony during this stay, but we otherwise loved our room. The bathrooms in particular are gorgeous, spacious, and very modern. If you’d like outdoor space, it would be best to request a first floor room, as those have patio space, though the patio space is usually shared with a neighboring room.

I’m sure you’ve heard there are pros and cons to staying in a Garden Wing room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. For my family, the more affordable room rates made it worth the short walk to the main building for transportation and dining (I would say our walk was about 5 minutes), though it was not ideal at the end of the day with tired kiddos. I just love this resort. With the new breakfast at Chef Mickey’s getting rave reviews, plus the delicious cupcakes from Contempo Café (seriously, they are so good), plus the iconic monorail running through the building and a walk to Magic Kingdom Park, I consider it a really great resort hotel choice.

I hope you enjoy your stay, Margot! If you’re still deciding which resort hotel is best for your Walt Disney World Resort vacation, I hope you’ll take a look at our Tips for Selecting a Resort, along with our other tips in the Panel Extras section. And, of course, please come back and see us if we can help with any further questions as you plan and dream.

    Wishing you a magical vacation,
