I have a room only reservation for a preferred room at POR for my family of 4 (DS 10 and DD5). Recently found out I can upgrade to Wilderness Lodge woods view for an extra $40/night. Is the switch to the deluxe resort worth the extra each night. Thanks.

    Hello Debra,

Thanks for stopping by with your question. Considering that Wilderness Lodge is my all-time favorite resort at Walt Disney World, then I would have to say absolutely. However, your budget is most important, so let me give you my reasons for choosing the upgrade and then you can make an informed decision for your family and what will be best for your budget.

First of all, the deluxe resorts have more amenities and "perks", hence the higher cost. Some of these include larger rooms, interior hallways (thus cutting down on the noise level), larger bathrooms and vanity area, and bigger closet space.

Next, the deluxe resorts also have a centrally located bus stop rather than several (such as Port Orleans Riverside). This can make the travel time to and from the parks more efficient. This can be a deal-breaker for some families. There is also a boat launch to the Magic Kingdom and Fort Wilderness.

Wilderness Lodge has some fantastic dining locations including Whispering Canyon Cafe and Artist Point. While you could still dine at these even without staying there, it is always convenient to walk down from your room for a great meal.

Last, but certainly not least, is the ambiance. I will admit that the quiet serenity of Port Orleans Riverside is great, the theming of Wilderness Lodge is absolutely amazing. From the moment you drive up among the tall pines and see the majestic lodge, you will be transformed immediately from Florida to the Pacific Northwest. As you enter the lobby, you immediately hear the great songs from classic western films and your eyes will naturally go upward at the beautiful totem poles and tee-pee inspired chandeliers.
So, in my opinion, It is an experience in and of itself to stay in such a wonderful resort.

Have a magical visit no matter where you stay.
