Hi Paul, thanks for bringing your question to planDisney!
My first recommendation is to speak with your family member’s doctor about any movement guidelines that should be followed. At this time, there are no specific restrictions regarding wearing casts on attractions at Walt Disney World, but you can speak to a Cast Member at the entrance to the attraction about what you can expect during each ride.
In my opinion, there are a few rides you might want to take extra caution on. For example,
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has restraints that pull down from overhead. Depending on your family member’s range of motion with the cast on, it may be difficult to grasp onto the handlebars of the restraint during the ride. In Magic Kingdom, the lightcycles on
TRON Lightcycle / Run have handlebars that need to be pulled back to secure the restraints. This can be done with your help, or the help of a Cast Member, but she may not be able to grip onto the handles throughout the ride. If she’s unable to ride on the lightcycle, there are accessible vehicles on this attraction so she can still enjoy the ride in a seated position! Some of the more thrilling attractions may also cause your family member to bump her arm against the vehicle, which the Cast Members can warn you about if you ask at the entrance to the queue. I know you mentioned it is a waterproof cast, but I would still take care not to get the cast too wet on rides such as
Kali River Rapids or
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
If your family member is right-handed, she may have to use her left hand to play along on rides like
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin or
Toy Story Mania, but it will be extra impressive if she gets a high score with her non-dominant hand!
These are just some suggestions to consider, Paul. Ultimately, speaking with the doctor overseeing your family member’s care is the best first step to take. If you have any more questions, please come back and see us at
