For rides like the Haunted Mansion, People Mover, etc. that have moving walkways, how do I make sure I safely get my toddler on and off the rides when he isn't the best with balance?

    Hiya Carley,

Welcome back to planDisney! I am so happy that you are here. I saw that you last spoke with Jana about bringing your toddler to Walt Disney World Resort, so I’m so excited that you are either returning with him or that this is his first visit. My toddler (3 years old) has been to Walt Disney World so many times that she thinks we are headed there whenever we say we are going on a trip. The Most Magical Place on Earth really is more magical through their eyes.

Great question about the moving walkways. My toddler also sometimes isn’t the best at them, either. Our strategy has always been to either hold her when we get off the ride until we are off the walkway or to make sure that we exit or enter the ride vehicle first and then assist her onto the walkway. This has always depended upon the attraction and her mood, of course. Some of the attractions with walkways include Haunted Mansion, The Seas with Nemo and Friends, and Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid, which has dimmer lighting, so we find it easier to carry her to those attractions, since the combination of low lighting and moving walkways can be a bit tricky for her. Other attractions we tend to hold for her are Peter Pan’s Flight, since it has a shorter walkway and is thus easier to maneuver. Now I’m not sure, Carley, if your Mouseketeer is in his independent stage, where he wants to do everything himself, including walking on a moving walkway. You can speak to a Cast Member at the attractions and ask for the assistance they can provide to make it smoother. There are no guarantees, of course, but it never hurts to ask.

I hope this was helpful, Carley! Before I let you go, I did want to remind you about the Baby Care Centers. I know the name makes it seem like it is only for babies, but toddlers can also take a little break there. Anytime my toddler needs a minute, we head to a Baby Care Center, and she can sit and watch a little Disney cartoon, eat her snack, and usually make a new friend. It is the perfect reset for toddlers (and mamas). If you need anything else, please come back and see us.

    Happy Planning,

    Ashley F.
