Hello Lindsay! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
Walt Disney World Resort has many attractions that are indoor or not required to close in mild or moderate rainy weather. With the sudden afternoon showers typical for central Florida, these downpours can be your ticket to more fun.
Sudden extreme downpours delay outdoor rides and attractions while lightning closes them down. Outside of these two situations, Walt Disney World Resort keeps the Endless Magic flowing.
Whenever the clouds let loose on
Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks, many Guests head for the exits, even though many Florida showers ease up within 10-30 minutes. This means that the Theme Parks will be at less than average crowds while your stalwart group has soldiered on. I always check the weather in advance and pack a rainy day kit that includes our
Walt Disney World Resort ponchos, a small umbrella, my Walt Disney World Resort raincoat and a change of socks for each family member.
With so many attractions still operating (unless lightning warnings close them down) the hardest aspect of navigating the Theme Parks is the rain is getting from one attraction to the next. Take advantage of indoor or sheltered attractions during this time (although they will remain busy, if not busier).
If you are a hearty crew, this is your chance to take advantage of less than average wait times for
Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and other outdoor rides that still continue if the rain is reasonable.
While the weather can dampen the spirits of Guests, it does not mean that solid planning can still assist you in making the most of your Disney Day.
Have a Magical Vacation!
