Hi! Can you still do a rider switch with virtual queues or individual lightning lanes? We are coming next month and there are several rides my husband, our 11 year old, and I want to ride that our 6 year old won't ride.

    Hello Tracie,

Thanks for stopping by planDisney with your question. Your Walt Disney World vacation will be here before you know it!

Rider Switch is so helpful, especially when you have some kids in your family who can't wait to tackle the Disney mountains and thrill rides, and others who might still be a little nervous or who simply might need to grow a few inches. You can certainly use Rider Switch with Individual Lightning Lanes and with Genie+ Lightning Lanes. You'll just need to make sure that everyone who wants to ride has either booked a Genie+ Lightning Lane or purchased an Individual Lightning Lane in order to do Rider Switch.

So, if you, your husband, and your 11 year old want to skip the standby line for Avatar Flight of Passage, you'll need to purchase 3 Individual Lightning Lanes. When it's time for your reservation, all 4 people in your party need to show up to the ride. A Cast Member will ask which one of you is going to ride a second time. Yes, your 11 will be REALLY lucky and get to ride twice! Then two of you will head into the ride, while the other parent stays with your 6 year old. Afterwards, you'll swap and the parent who waited can enter the Lightning Lane with one guest, or they can go solo if they want.

It's the same for Genie+ Lightning Lanes. You need to make a selection for everyone in your party who wants to ride the attraction. Right now there are no virtual queues, although I'm sure that you are probably anticipating Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. I'm not sure how that will work yet, but my guess is that everyone who wanted to ride would need to have a virtual queue reservation.

If you see that a standby line is relatively short, you may also want use Rider Switch in the standby lines as well. The first two people would wait for the ride, and then the parent who waited behind with the non-riding child would get to go through the Lightning Lane with a guest.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!
