Welcome to planDisney, Eileen!
If there’s one thing at Walt Disney World Resort that I can’t live without, it’s
Disney Rider Switch. Especially when my little ones were very young, Rider Switch provides an opportunity for the thrill-seeking Mouseketeers in my family to still ride our favorite attractions with higher height requirements while others can take it easy on the sidelines.
You can set up Rider Switch Service by asking a Cast Member with a tablet who is usually near an attraction’s entrance. The first group that rides waits in the standby queue (unless they have purchased
Lightning Lane access) while the second group waits—and then, you swap!
The second riding group in my party usually redeems our Rider Switch Lightning Lane right away, so I asked a friendly Cast Member via the “Chat With Us” feature in the
My Disney Experience App to see if there is a time limit. I have good news! There is technically a one-hour limit once the first party exits the ride. However, I was told that there is some flexibility. You’ll want to double check with the Cast Member who sets up your family’s Rider Switch. I will say that once (at Disneyland Resort, not at my home of Walt Disney World), my husband and older son redeemed a
Cars attraction’s Rider Switch Lightning Lane return time hours later after a meal at Flo’s V8 Cafe. In other words, your odds of your wish coming true are high.
Eileen, I hope that you and your family have a pixie-dusted vacation! If you have any additional questions, feel free to
revisit us here at planDisney. Any of the panelists will be more than happy to share their tips and tricks with you.
Magic always,
LeAndra
