HI! We are returning to Disney May 5-10 ! I would like to buy my kids some Disney dollars as a way of limiting their spending. My question though is, if we do not spend all of the $$, can we exchange them for cash before we leave?

Hi Catherine!  I am the Disney Dollar lady of the panel.  Every visit our family takes we actually play a Disney Dollar game at each meal making it something everyone looks forward to.  It started when my children were young and they are now 29 and 31 and still expect to play!

I think the Disney dollars are a great way to help children learn about their choices and limits with shopping for souvenirs while at Walt Disney World.  A gift card doesn't give them the same feel of real money and they can't see the amount diminish as they spend like they can with the Disney money.  When you are ready to check out from your resort you can easily exchange the Disney dollars for "real" money at either the front desk or the concierge desk at the resort.  You can also exchange it at any Guest Services in the parks.
