Just returned from SSR where we used the bus/monorail to get around. WDW was super crowded but I had great luck with the Disney bus- no long waits. Are the buses more reliable when WDW is crowded? Should I consider a car in late Oct from AKL?

    Hi Kim,

Glad to hear you had a great vacation, so great that you're going back soon! I know people sometimes complain about the bus transportation, but overall, Disney does a fantastic job transporting guests all over Walt Disney World property. I don't know if buses are more reliable during peak season, I think it's just that since their are more guests, buses have to run more frequently to accommodate everyone.

I don't know if you'll need to get a car for Animal Kingdom Lodge. I've stayed there before and found bus transportation works really well. The great thing about AKL is that it doesn't typically share a route with any other resorts. Once you are on the bus, your next stop is your destination.

The only situation where I would recommend renting a car would be if your vacation plans include a lot of meals at other resorts. Traveling to those by bus can be a bit tricky and use up a lot of time. Otherwise, I think you'll find the bus service to be fine.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
