We are a retired military family. Does anyone have experience with military discounts at the WDW resorts vs Shades of Green? Are we able to still get the military discount park hopper passes if we don't stay at SOG?

    Hi Michelle,

From one military family to another, I want to thank you so much for stopping by the Moms Panel and asking your question. The military discounts on Walt Disney World Resort Hotel accommodations are actually pretty great. Since Shades of Green bases our room rates on the rank of the military or retired member, it can get pretty pricey with each promotion. Our family enjoys using the military discount on the Disney Resorts since you get all of the amenities that are offered to other guests, but are able to save a decent amount of money.

Here's how the military discounted accommodations work: Walt Disney World Resort has rooms at select resorts that are offered to military members throughout the year. You decide if you would like to stay at a Value Resort, Moderate Resort or Deluxe Resort. Walt Disney representatives will then look up your vacation dates and let you know what resorts are offered to you at that time. Please note that there usually are blockout dates when you won't be able to use your military discount. All information, including the phone number you'll use to make your reservation is listed on this page: Get Rates for Members of the U.S. Military

You are still able to get discounted Walt Disney World theme park tickets, even if you decide to stay at a Walt Disney World Resort. The tickets can be purchased at your local military base, or Shades of Green. They can also be purchased at theme park ticket windows and in Downtown Disney. Please note, if you buy your tickets within the theme parks or at Downtown Disney, you will be subject to tax.

I hope that answered your question, Michelle. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask at any time. I'm always here to help.
