Hi there, Deborah!
Welcome to planDisney! I'm so glad you stopped by so that we can find a
practically perfect Disney Resort hotel room for your upcoming magical vacation!
One of the things I love about
Disney Resort hotels is the way each one is able to work a bit of Disney magic into its uniquely immersive theming. From the Lion King touches to the rooms at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Super Suits hanging in the closets at Disney's Contemporary Resorts to the Three Caballeros artwork at
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort to the larger-than-life Mickey Mouse telephone at
Disney's Pop Century Resort, there's magic (both subtle and not-so-subtle) for Mouseketeers of all ages!
Deborah, I know you mentioned that you don't necessarily need a roll-in shower in your room, so I spoke to a helpful Cast Member who informed me that while some Resort hotels feature walk-in showers (I've personally encountered them at
Animal Kingdom Lodge and
Disney's Contemporary Resort), they are not a specific, bookable room-type. This means that while you could request a room with a walk-in, there isn't a guarantee that one would be available for you during your stay. She suggested either calling the
Disney Resort Hotel Reservations line to inquire which Resort hotels feature this type of bathroom and the likelihood of securing one for your stay or for a guaranteed walk-in shower with a grab bar, to book a room with an accessible shower. Happily, this is something you can do online without Cast Member assistance!
When you are searching for this type of room for your upcoming stay, you'll want to select 'Places to Stay' from the menu at the top of the
Walt Disney World website. This will then direct you to a
page where you'll input your Check-in date, Check-out date, and party size. Right beside that you'll see a box for 'Accessible Rooms' you can check. This will populate search results of available rooms and information regarding their accessibility features. You can even helpfully view photos of the rooms to see if they meet your needs!
As a bit of bonus magic: Don't forget that Guests of Disney Resort hotels have access to incredible,
exclusive perks such as complimentary transportation to and from the theme parks, extra time in the theme parks, and the option to add a
dining plan to their stay!
While I'm sure this wasn't exactly what you were hoping to hear, Deborah, I hope the information proves helpful as you choose which Disney Resort hotel to call your magical home away from home. If you have any additional questions as you plan, feel free to
stop back by. I'm happy to help!
Thinking Happy Thoughts,
Lizzie
