HI, While on the resorts it is faster to wait for Disney transportation? Or if we have a vehicle ourselves can it be faster to drive to the park ourselves? For instance from the beach villas to MK. And what can be an expected travel time. Thanks

    Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  Transportation can be a hotly debated issue, even between Moms Panel members.  Personally, I have always found it to be not only quicker, but more convenient to take my own car to the parks in lieu of bus transportation.  In some situations it may not necessarily be quicker but as a family that travels with small children and strollers I certainly found it much less stressful.  The things that I consider are:

    • Time of year -  Are the busses going to be standing room only?  I have a hard time standing and holding onto three kids at the same time.
    • Resort - Does the bus at your resort share with other resorts?  Having multiple stops before reaching your destination can be frustrating when you are either ready to start your day, or tired and wanting to be back at your resort.
    • Travel Time - Most resort to park trip durations are expected to be 5-15 minutes by either bus or car, however when you consider the fact that busses depart about every 20 minutes, if you "just miss" the bus, you realize that by the time the next bus arrives, you could have already been at your destination if traveling by car.  Consider though, that at the Magic Kingdom the busses conveniently drop you off at the front gate, whereas by car you are parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center and need to then take the Monorail to the front gate.
    • Familiarity - Are you familiar with the area or comfortable using a map?  I am very comfortable using the roadways within Walt Disney World so I find it very easy to move around by car.  However, I could easily eat up any time savings by taking a wrong turn and getting lost!

This probably made your decision no easier, as they are pros and cons to each option.  I however stand by the preference to take our own vehicle.  I like not being dependent on the busses, and having the quiet ride home at the end of the day.  Good luck with your decision!
