Rachel from VA Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Can you resort hop using your own car? Parking was a challenge in fall 2023 and I was wondering if any of the rules have changed in 2024 to make resort hopping by car more manageable. Thanks!

Hey there Rachel and welcome to planDisney!

One of the things I love whenever I’m doing research out and about here at Walt Disney World Resort is hopping around and exploring all of the destinations where guests stay to experience each of their unique offerings, theming and perhaps enjoy some great Disney Eats along the way. From my observations it seems like many other guests have experienced that Resort-hopping nowadays is quite a bit more challenging and perhaps more restrictive than it was in the past, and I’m happy to share what you might be able to expect at the current time:

    • Over the past few years, visiting the Disney Resort Hotels as a day guest has proven to be more challenging due to Parking policies that have become increasingly stricter to limit access to guests either staying at that location or are able to present a valid dining reservation. (At the current time, Parking and Security Cast Members have been observed turning away guests who may only have a Mobile Order and only granting access to those with Table-Service reservations that they can confirm. Policies are subject to change without prior notice and may be ultimately be at the discretion of the Cast Member or their leaders.) This can especially be seen at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa or Disney's Polynesian Village Resort where ongoing construction projects have reduced parking availability, making it more important for resort guests to have access to the limited spaces.
    • Taking advantage of complimentary resort transportation has been the way that most keen Resort-hopping guests have had to get around, especially when choosing to park at Disney Springs. In lieu of using a car to drive everywhere and risk being turned away, strategizing with itineraries around a certain area and using transportation such as the Disney Skyliner is a great way to reach a number of different destinations easily, including Disney's BoardWalk.
At the current time it does not appear as though any changes will be coming that will revert the freedom day guests once had to hop between these locations with their own vehicle, but we’ll be keeping track of these policies and how stringently they are enforced at different times of the year. Come back to us here at planDisney for specific Resort-Hopping strategies or any other tips or tricks that we're always happy to share!

Here’s hoping for some easy Hopping in your future!
