Greetings Meridith! Welcome to planDisney!
Just about an hour away from Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando Sanford Airport is a great choice for your vacation. We use it about half of the time from our home base in Michigan. We will be flying into Orlando Sanford for our next trip in February for the runDisney
Disney Half Marathon Weekend.
While there is no official Disney shuttle from the airport, you have several options for transportation to
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort-A Disney Vacation Club Resort.
I think the easiest one is using a private rideshare service. Our family has done this many times, and we have always had safe and secure rides. The cars and drivers are usually readily available, and they will take you directly to your desired location. If you have an app for one of the rideshare companies, you can pre-order a ride and have it waiting for you when you arrive.
One thought though, my adult daughter has travelled alone a couple of times and felt safer to call ahead and book a private, scheduled transportation service. You can search for those companies and find one if that might be the right solution for you.
There may also be shuttle services at the airport, but they may take multiple families and make several stops along the way. We have never used this method from Orlando Sanford. Again, you can search for those to see if one might fit you.
Any finally you can always rent a car and drive yourself to Fort Wilderness. We have done this one time. I probably wouldn’t do this again because once I get to Walt Disney World, I want to throw away my keys and let someone else take care of the transportation for my magical trip! That gives me more time to enjoy a Mickey Bar!
When you do get to Fort Wilderness, I hope you make time for the
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue! Get ready to chow down and stomp your feet with the Pioneer Hall Players!
Meridith, I hope this gives you a little direction as you start finalizing your plans!
Have a magical day!
Kurt
