We have reservations for Mickeys Backyard Barbecue for 2 Adults and our 4 year old for our next visit. Is this show a good idea for a very shy and timid toddler? Also, what makes this show so popular? I'm thinking of canceling. Thanx!

    Hi Alysha!

My family loves Mickey's Backyard BBQ! Most locations only involve characters coming around to tables during your meal. They sign autographs, pose for pictures and interact with Guests for a few minutes. Mickey's Backyard BBQ goes beyond that by offering a meal with a night of interactive entertainment.

Hosts Cyclone Sally and Tumbleweed Will entertain Guests & invite you to dance & enjoy the party. There is 1 main dance floor and 2 smaller ones where characters dance with Guests. Characters are always subject to change but the last time I was there Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip 'n Dale appeared in their western & BBQ attire.

A live band provides the music for the evening. There is an impressive trick roping demonstration & they bring up a couple of kids from the audience to assist. At the end of the evening, all of the performers and characters gather for the grand finale.

Kids love dancing with the characters and you spend more time interacting with them than you would at other character meals. The characters don't typically stop and pose for pictures or sign autographs but the action shots are priceless.

During the breaks, be sure to check outside the pavilion (towards the side where the hostess stand was when you first checked in). I've seen the characters come back there to pose for pictures and sign autographs. We've also been able to catch Mickey & Minnie there at the end of the evening for one last photo as we're heading out.

I know you said your little one is very shy. You can choose to be close to the action or further away if that's more comfortable for her but I think she'll still have a great time watching and dancing with you. You can take a break outside the Pavilion if she needs one. I'd keep the reservations. You might be surprised to see her break out of her shell as the night goes on.

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
