We have reservations at Disneyland and thunderstorms are expected from 8am to 9pm. Will the rides close during this unusually long period of thunderstorms? Is it safe to be outdoors during this 12ish hour period? Can we be refunded if we are unable to go?

Hi Danae! Welcome to planDisney! Thanks so much for stopping by to send us your planning question about the Disneyland Resort.

Visiting The Happiest Place on Earth on rainy days has been some of my favorite, most memorable times, but I know it's not for everyone. Rain or shine, Disneyland Park, and Disney California Adventure Park will still be open. Some attractions with outdoor areas might close in the event of inclement weather such as lightning and thunderstorms. In my experience, the closures are typically temporary and attractions will reopen as they can safely accommodate guests.

There are ways to avoid inclement weather such as making an Advanced Dining Reservation or enjoying attractions that have ride vehicles inside. Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park and Toy Story Midway Mania! at Disney California Adventure Park are examples of just some of the many attractions that can be enjoyed inside. If you prefer not to visit on a day when there is rain and thunderstorms forecasted, you could cancel your Theme Park Reservation and choose a new date for a future visit. Once purchased, Theme Park Tickets are a final sale and are nonrefundable.

I hope this information helps with your planning. If you have more questions before you arrive, please feel free to send them to us at planDisney. We would be happy to help!

    Wishing you magic,
    Lisa
