Hi there! We have reservations in August to come to WDW. I am wondering if anyone has recommendations for what masks might work best not to over heat the kids that meet with Disney’s guidelines (other than the ones Disney is selling)? Thanks!

Hi, Charlann!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I'm so glad to hEAR that you and your family will be visiting Walt Disney World Resort this summer!  While our vacations may look a little bit different during these unprecedented times, I have no doubt that they will be just as magical.  Walt Disney World Resort is ready to begin welcoming Guests back to a world of magic, and the health of those Guests is of the utmost importance.  Walt Disney World Resort has been taking the advice of the appropriate health authorities and government agencies to prepare for reopening.  Under the advice of these authorities, Walt Disney World Resort is now requiring all Guests ages 2 and up to wear face coverings.

Guests should bring their own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming.  All face coverings should fully cover the individual's nose and mouth and allow the Guest to remain hands-free.  The face covering should fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face and be secured with ties or ear loops.  Either disposable or reusable face masks are acceptable, but face shields and neck gaiters will not be allowed.

When it comes to choosing appropriate face coverings for your little Mouseketeers, my best advice is to try some different types of face masks out at home to see what your kiddos like best.  I would look for masks made of lightweight, breathable cotton material.  Be sure to pack multiple face coverings for each member of your family, for each day of your vacation.  You'll want extras to swap out for a fresh face mask as needed.  Also, it may be a good idea to plan on returning to your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel for a midday break.  This will give your family a chance to take a break from your face masks while relaxing in your resort hotel room or cooling off in the pool.

I've had lots of success finding comfortable face masks for my kids on Etsy.  I also purchased some of the adorable face masks from shopDisney, and my whole family loves them.  The shopDisney face masks are made of the softest, comfiest cotton material, and the designs are so cute!  I will say that the face masks from shopDisney seem to run a little on the small side.  The size large is perfect for adults and teens, and the medium masks fit my school-age daughter well.  If you have toddlers or preschoolers in your family, the size small would likely be a good fit for them.  My family especially loves the Star Wars set of shopDisney masks, in particular the one featuring The Child from The Mandalorian.  We will be wearing our face masks when we return to Walt Disney World Resort because, as the Mandalorian tells us, "This is the way."

Charlann, as you get ready for your magical vacation, be sure to keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog and the operational updates page on the Walt Disney World website for all of the latest updates regarding the reopening process.  If you have additional questions, please visit us again.

    See ya real soon!
