Is a reservation required for Chef Mickey's or any other restaurant? If not, is it possible to get in in a reasonable amount of time?

    Hi Tina!

You've come to the right place because I could talk about the food at Walt Disney World until I'm blue in the face. I really struggle making dining reservations for each of our vacations because I love pretty much every restaurant on property.

Speaking of reservations, you asked a really good question.  For a restaurant like Chef Mickey's, I highly recommend getting a reservation. In fact, I recommend getting reservations for every restaurant in Walt Disney World.

If you're planning to visit during a very slow time of the year (which is realistically only a few weeks scattered here and there), then you can probably wing it without any reservations. However, I recommend playing it safe and locking down your reservations as soon as possible so you can have control over when and where you eat.

I will say this - I have had some success in the past when I've wanted to change my reservations on the fly. In other words, I booked a reservation six months out, but decided that day that I was interested in trying someplace else instead. In those cases, I either called Disney Dining directly at (407) WDW-DINE or went to the host stand at the restaurant and had them check their availability. It hasn't worked every time, but it has worked some of the time.

With the rollout of the My Disney Experience app for smartphones, this process is even easier than before because it's all at your fingertips. If you haven't checked out the app yet, definitely give it a whirl.

I hope that helps! If you have any questions about specific restaurants you'd like to try, feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to share my opinions and experiences!

    Bon Appetit!

    Best regards,
    Derek
