I have a reservation at 'Ohana for 3 people on July 3rd for my son's 10th birthday. My mom is one of the guests. She does not like the food at 'Ohana but wants to be present. Is that possible? Will I still need to pay for her meal?

    Aloha, Tina!

How exciting that you’re planning a tropical birthday celebration for your son’s special day! ‘Ohana is one of my top favorite dining experiences at the Walt Disney World Resort, so I know you’re going to have a magical time together. I’m sorry to hear that your mother doesn’t care for the food but can understand her wanting to join in the fun. Let’s review their policies together and see what you can expect.

‘Ohana is located in the Great Ceremonial House within Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Please see this question I recently answered for another Guest regarding parking here for a dining reservation. While ‘Ohana is priced per-person for both the breakfast and dinner experiences, I spoke with a friendly Cast Member at the resort today to get some more details. She confirmed that this is up to the restaurant’s discretion, but please speak to both the host and your server about one Guest not eating when you arrive. For a party of three this should be easily accommodated but please know this could change based on the busy holiday weekend and specific policies in place. (The intent is to not reserve a large table and then have only one person eat, taking up precious space and time where they could accommodate other hungry Guests.) If you approach the situation with kindness and clarity, I’m certain you’ll be met with empathy and understanding for a wonderful meal together while your mother participates in the birthday party at your table. My pal LeAndra recently celebrated a family birthday at ‘Ohana and confirmed that you may bring in wrapped gifts, so let the celebration begin Tina!

There’s still time to add a celebration cake to your reservation if you’d like a special Mickey-shaped dessert to honor this milestone at the end of your meal. We surprised my son with one at his last Disney birthday – it was a magical moment and so delicious! Don’t forget to stop by the front desk at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on your way to request a complimentary Celebration Button, too.

I hope you and your family have the most wonderful time together celebrating your son’s special day! Please let us know how else we can help with your upcoming plans at the Walt Disney World Resort.

    Mahalo,
    Amy
