Hi Julie:
With so many different Resorts to choose from, it can be hard to make a decision. Perhaps the easiest way to narrow your selection is by budget. Value Resorts are less expensive than moderate Resorts, which are less expensive than Deluxe Resorts. Deluxe Resorts tend to have better amenities, more detailed theming, fancier and interactive pools, more children activities, and signature dining on site. Some of the Deluxe Resorts may be closer to the Parks as well. If you plan to spend a day lounging around the pool or taking advantage of the amenities at your Resort, I recommend looking into a Deluxe Resort. If you plan not being at the Resort much because you will be in the Parks most of your vacation, then a Deluxe Resort is likely not for you.
Once you determine if a Value, Moderate, or Deluxe Resort is for you, you'll notice that certain Resorts in your desired category have themes that may appeal to your family. For example, if you are looking for a Deluxe Resort and enjoy animals, then Animal Kingdom Lodge may be your Resort.
Not to complicate matters, but another option are Disney Deluxe Villas, which offer 1, 2, or 3 bedroom accommodations with kitchens and laundry inside the room.
In short, there is no need to break the bank and stay at a Resort outside of your budget. But if you plan to spend time at your Resort or pool, then a moderate or deluxe Resort is worth considering.
