We have res. for our children to be at the Poly kids club for 2 hours. Surprising my husband with romantic dinner. Which restaurant is best and easiest to get to on monorail line? Narcoossee, California grill, kona? I am still nervous to leave the kids.

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel. You've named three of my favorite Walt Disney World restaurants, so let me do my best to help you make a decision.

California Grill is the place we choose most often for a birthday or anniversary dinner and probably has one of the most romantic settings -- atop the Contemporary with a view of Cinderella Castle and Wishes fireworks. We love the food and the atmosphere, especially since the renovations last year.

Narcoossee's also has a beautiful setting on Seven Seas Lagoon at the Grand Floridian resort. You also can see Wishes from Narcoossee's patio. We've had several memorable meals there and have a reservation for the night before Thanksgiving this year. My husband still talks about a potato-wrapped fish dish he had there for his birthday several years ago. The grounds of the Grand Floridian are lovely at night and are perfect for a romantic stroll after dinner.

Kona Cafe has the advantage of being in the Polynesian, near your children. It's one of our go-to restaurants as well, but is much more casual in atmosphere and in food than the other two you mentioned. The sticky wings, the sushi and the crab cakes at Kona are my particular favorites.

In terms of logistics, once the monorail leaves the Polynesian, it stops at the Grand Floridian, Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary and the Transportation and Ticket Center before returning to the Polynesian, if that helps you make a choice. The roundtrip probably takes about 20 to 25 minutes, including stops.

I'd also like to suggest you consider The Wave on the lower level of the Contemporary. I think it's a hidden gem in the Walt Disney World restaurants. We've always had great meals and stellar service there as well.

I hope that helps. Please feel free to write me back if I can offer any other details or answer other questions. Enjoy your evening with your husband!
