Hello, Nicole! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!
Footwear is not required while you splash around at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park - however I strongly recommend wearing a pair of swim shoes. You are right - the ground gets might toasty and I also do not enjoy walking with my bare feet where many, many other people have also walked. On some of the more thrilling rides, the Cast Member life-guarding may ask you to take off your shoes and hang on to them as you go down the slides. You are able to quickly put them back on once you exit the ride. I would not suggest flip flops or sandals, as those become difficult to walk in once they are wet. Don't be afraid to invest in a good pair of swim shoes. We purchased my husband's shoes new before we left and they didn't even make it through the day before they fell apart!
Have the best day ever, Nicole!
