Eric from FL Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Is it required that the entire party ride at the same time for a lighting reservation together? If I book reservation for space mountain for my wife and I, can go while my wife stays back to watch our baby and then have her ride it immediately after?

Heigh-ho, Eric! It’s off to Walt Disney World Resort you go!

You and your family must be thrilled to visit The Most Magical Place on Earth soon. I have been visiting the magic with my little ones since they were babies, and I’m happy to help you with your question!

Firstly, I’d like to let you know that your entire party does not have to board and experience the attraction all at the same time.

If you’ve purchased Disney Genie+, it will give you an hour return window for your party to ride the attraction within that time frame. Since the person riding first needs to tap in with their ticket card, MagicBand, or Disney MagicMobile, the system will be able to work with your My Disney Experience account to see which person in your party is boarding the attraction and will know there are still members in your party that haven’t.

With or without Disney Genie+, I would also like to mention a service that helped my family when we traveled with our babies: the Rider Switch service. This service is perfect for the scenario you described and is a feature that allows Guests to take turns waiting with children who cannot or do not want to ride. To use Rider Switch, your entire party must go to the Cast Member greeting Guests at the attraction queue you wish to ride and let them know you’d like to participate in the Rider Switch service. The first party will go in to ride, and then the waiting members utilizing the Rider Switch service will be eligible to go through the queue without waiting in the standby line once the first rider(s) return. That way, your baby will never be alone, and both parents will get to ride the attraction without waiting twice as long.

You may also find the Baby Care Centers to be helpful during your family vacation! These facilities are located in all four theme parks and were so helpful for my family when my Mouseketeers were younger. They offer large changing tables, a kitchen with a microwave and sink, a private nursing room, an on-site shop in case you run low on wipes, diapers, baby food, etc., and more!

We’re so excited to welcome you and your family to the magic, Eric! Have an enchanting visit.
